Next Steps: Making Vision Reality

St. Nicholas Church in Arizona reflects Southwestern architecture

St. Athanasius Orthodox Church hosted architects Dn. James Bryant and Bob Latsko for presentations on June 28-29. A profusion of slides of Orthodox churches from around the world accompanied the presentations, giving parishioners a feel for what makes a building “orthodox.”

The slides also showed the variation in regional style. Bob Latsko offered a 3D model of a neoclassical church he designed for another parish as an example of something that would fit seamlessly into the Kentucky landscape and at the same time be recognizably an Orthodox church. Dn. James Bryant answered questions posed by parishioners and also outlined what an architect would need before making a master plan. He said that our parish needs to formulate a vision for our mission in Nicholasville. An architect can then spell out the practical realities and give a timeline for making that vision into a reality. For more information about Dn. James Bryant’s architectural firm, including articles about Orthodox architecture, visit his website at www.jamesbryantarch.com.
